Rationale and Purpose of the Board

 

 

 

Z E P H I R O recognizes a growing need for civil society and non-governmental organizations throughout the world to be more effective, efficient and productive in order to fulffill their objectives and affect societal change. We believe that having a good expert Advisory Board provides a basis for achieving more effectiveness and professionalism, as well as successful management of Z E P H I R O. 

 

 

A diverse and international  Advisory Board of Z E P H I R O brings together several leaders and visonaries with a shared interest in advancing sexual and gender freedom of individuals; who provide us with high-quality expert advice and crucial policy insights, based on members' relevant fields of expertise and experience.  In this way, Advisory Board strengthens Z E P H I R O's potential and capacity to produce high quality interventions, reserach, litigation and campaigning strategies.

Sophie Kwasny

Sophie Kwasny is the Head of the Data Protection Unit of the Council of Europe and is responsible for standard-setting and policy on privacy and data protection, especially with regard to new technologies and the Internet.  She is a graduate of the Strasbourg Law University and has been working for the Council of Europe for over 15 years on a variety of topics. Sophie’s intergovernmental experience and expertise in the area of data privacy and communications policy make her insights and advice indispensible for the development of our progressive research and advocacy strategies. Together with Z E P H I R O, Sophie is pioneering a new research and policy agenda on LGBT+ & Digital Rights and has recently chaired a Council of Europe’s hosted panel on LGBT+ & Digital Rights at the 8th International Conference on Computers, Privacy and Data Protection in Brussels in January 2015. Z E P H I R O is proud and honored to have Sophie on our Advisory Board! 

Jamie Baxter

Jamie Baxter is the Vice President of Marketing for dotgay LLC, a New York based company spearheading the community designed proposal for the new .GAY top-level domain (TLD) on the Internet. With 15+ years of activism and engagement in the LGBT+ space, Jamie’s experience has been vital in strategy and policy development for .GAY as well as in his role as key community liaison in the ongoing application process with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names & Numbers (ICANN). Jamie’s function and perspective has also contributed to ongoing advocacy efforts for LGBT+interests within ICANN beyond .GAY, including initiatives involving human rights and ICANN’s corporate responsibility. Originally from London Ontario in Canada, Jamie completed a Bachelor of Applied Science in Marketing and Consumer Studies (University of Guelph) before commencing a Masters of Education at the University of Nebraska. Jamie's expertise and experience in marketing and LGBT+ activism is invaluable for Z E P H I R O's strategies and work, and we are happy and proud to have Jamie on Z E P H I R O Advisory Board.  

Dr. Ben Wagner

Dr. Ben Wagner is Director of the Centre for Internet & Human Rights (CIHR) at European University Viadrina. He is also a Visiting Fellow at TU-Berlin and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and a determined human rights activist.  Ben holds a PhD from European University Institute. His research focuses on freedom of expression, surveillance technology, Internet Governance and Internet foreign policy and has been published in Politics, Telecommunications Policy, JITP and the International Journal of Communications. Ben’s expertise in the area of Internet Governance and human rights make his ideas crucial for the development of our progressive research strategies. Together with Z E P H I R O, Ben and CIHR are pioneering a new research and policy agenda on LGBT+ & Digital Rights and are collaborating on joint reserach projects. Z E P H I R O is proud and honored to have Ben on our Advisory Board! 

Dr. Stefania Milan

Dr. Stefania Milan is an Assistant Professor of New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam. She is also a research associate at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology and Society (Tilburg University) and at the Internet Policy Observatory of Annenberg School of Communication(University of Pennsylvania). Stefania holds a PhD in political and social sciences of the European University Institute and is the author of Social Movements and Their Technologies: Wiring Social Change (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), and co-author of Media/Society (Sage, 2011). Her work has appeared in a variety of academic journals, including Internet & Policy and Information, Communication & Society. Stefania is curious about cyberactivism, cyberspace governance, and data epistemologies, thus her insight are invaluable for our work in the are of communications! Together with Z E P H I R O, Stefania and Data J Lab are collaborating on LGBT+ & Big Data reserach project. Z E P H I R O is proud and honored to have Stefania on our Advisory Board!
